Judge Skarin Celebrates 5-Year Anniversary of U.S. Supreme Court Relying on His Brief to Provide Clear Legal Answer to Issue that Previously Fractured Court

Five years ago, in June 2018, while still practicing law as an attorney for Jones Day in the firm’s appellate division, Judge Kenton Skarin wrote an amicus brief that the United States Supreme Court cited to and relied upon in resolving a longstanding question of criminal resentencing law that fractured the Court seven years earlier. SCOTUS Blog, an independent news and analysis source for the Court, referred to the Court’s decision in Hughes v. United States, as “what could have been one of the most significant cases of the term.”
