DuPage County Judge Kenton Skarin Announces Campaign For Illinois Appellate Court (3rd Dist.)

Judge Kenton Skarin of Wheaton, DuPage County, Illinois has announced his campaign for one of three 3rd District Appellate Court vacancies up for election in November 2024.  The 3rd District includes all of: DuPage, Will, Bureau, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, and LaSalle counties.  Judge Skarin will run as a Republican.

Judge Skarin currently serves as an Associate Judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in DuPage County, a position he was appointed to by his fellow 18th Judicial Circuit Court judges in March 2019.  Since then, Judge Skarin has presided over assignments in the Traffic and Domestic Relations Divisions. 

Judge Skarin was born and raised in Wheaton, Illinois.  He received a bachelor's degree in history from North Central College (summa cum laude) and earned his juris doctor from Northwestern University.  Judge Skarin graduated first in his class at Northwestern Law (magna cum laude).

After law school, Judge Skarin clerked for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  That court hears appeals from all federal cases in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North and South Carolina.  Judge Skarin was responsible for researching, writing, and helping to decide numerous cases while serving there.  Thereafter, Judge Skarin returned to live in DuPage county, working at the international law firm Mayer Brown, LLP.

Once again, Judge Skarin returned to public service when he joined the United States Supreme Court as a clerk.  Judge Skarin served in that role before returning to private practice - this time with Jones Day, a global firm with offices on five continents.

At Jones Day, Judge Skarin honed his advocacy skills and understanding of complex legal problems in the firm's premier appellate practice.  Judge Skarin briefly left Jones Day to serve as Deputy General Counsel for the State of Illinois, before returning to Jones Day until being appointed to the bench.

"Having served as a Judge for the last four years, and after my experiences serving judges in numerous high courts - including at the United States Supreme Court - I can bring the same excellence to the Illinois Appellate Court," Judge Skarin said.  "I want to provide the world-class quality and work ethic I learned in private practice to help improve and guide the 3rd District Court. The people of Illinois deserve nothing less."

Judge Skarin and his wife (his high school sweetheart) are raising their nine children in DuPage County.  When not in court or with his children, Judge Skarin enjoys running, working on cars, and listening to country music.
