Who lives in the Third District Appellate Court?

Hello, my name is Judge Kenton Skarin, and I am running for Illinois Third District Appellate Court in November 2024.

People ask me where the Illinois Third District Appellate Court is.  It’s a good question.  Here’s a map:

As you can see, the Third District is made up of seven counties west and south of Chicago.  Those counties are DuPage, Will, LaSalle, Kankakee, Grundy, Bureau, and Iroquois Counties.

If you live in one of those counties, you live in the Third Appellate District.  That means all appeals from state trial court where you live go to the Third District Appellate Court.

The total population is just under two million people.  Of those people, almost one million live in DuPage County, almost seven hundred thousand people in Will County, and about three hundred thirty thousand people live across the other five counties.

It is a great cross section of Illinois.  We have everything from close Chicago suburbs to Illinois prairie and farms.  We have the I-88 tech corridor, we have Starved Rock and the Illinois River.  We have Will County, where my brother and his family live, and Grundy County, where my sister and her family have farmed for generations.  We have many colleges, and we have the grocery and hardware stores where you shop.  We have union workers, professionals, farmers, business owners, and teachers.

Anything that happens in any of these places to any of these people can end up in the Third District Appellate Court.  I want to provide excellence on that court so that you know the law will be applied fairly where you live.

I hope this was helpful in explaining where the Third District Appellate Court is, and I am asking you to vote for me in November 2024.
