Helping Litigants With Timely Justice (Clearing The Coronavirus Backlog)

The caseload in Judge Skarin’s current courtroom is down 60% since he took over the call.

“CITIZENS COUNT ON JUDGES TO WORK HARD AND GET THEM ANSWERS.  I WILL KEEP DOING THAT.  I WILL BRING THAT SAME WORK ETHIC TO THE ILLINOIS THIRD DISTRICT APPELLATE COURT,” JUDGE KENTON SKARIN.

Hello, my name is Judge Kenton Skarin, and I am running for Illinois Third District Appellate Court in November 2024.

Today we are talking about helping litigants finish their cases quickly so they can move on with their lives.

Sadly, lawsuits are slow and expensive.  The emotional and financial toll can be extreme.  I see it every day.  It is a tragedy.

Good judges can limit the damage.  My record shows I do that.

Almost three years ago, I switched courtrooms at the height of coronavirus.  I inherited a backlog.  It was hard to give people five minutes just to check in.  Trials were delayed by months.

I rolled up my sleeves.  I worked fourteen hour days.  I worked weekends.  The lawyers and I helped parties reach fair settlements.  We did trials almost every day for cases we couldn’t settle.  We fixed the backlog together.

From that point until now, my case load is down over 60%.  If you need to check in, you can get a time next week.  Trial dates are available sooner than we need them.  And clearing the backlog lets me schedule cases that need attention now before they become even bigger problems.

Citizens count on judges to work hard and get them answers.  I will keep doing that.  I will bring that same work ethic to the Illinois Third District Appellate Court.

I am asking you to vote for me in November 2024.
