Celebrating Presidents’ Day 2024
Happy President’s Day! In August 2022, I took my oldest three to Mt. Rushmore.
That monument honors the Father of our Nation (Washington), the Author of our Declaration (Jefferson), the Savior of our Nation (Illinois’ own Lincoln), and a Developer of our Nation (Teddy Roosevelt).
None of these presidents was infallible. But all of them tried to give us the promise of America as it could be, a place better than they found it. That’s a goal worth remembering and trying to achieve.
Oh, and on our Mt. Rushmore trip, we also visited Wall Drug.
If you haven’t visited, you simply must. It is the most good-naturedly tacky place in America, a throwback to 1950s road trips and roadside destinations.
It’s one of my favorite places on earth.
